Assignment #8: Rotoscope Animation

In the beginning stages of this assignment, I faced many stylistic challenges and got frustrated, wanting to just give up or put as little effort into it as I could get away with.
But once I just stopped overthinking and just drew, this is what I came up with. My mind kept going on and on, literally making up ideas as I drew them.
This was originally my own short film I made last year, and I was already proud of that. But filming on a college campus with minimal props and settings, I was somewhat limited. Getting to literally draw whatever I wanted to with the same film I already shot was something special; I created an entirely new film with its own new and unique meaning, which is what matters to me in my art.
I enjoyed this project and I enjoyed the end result.

Assignment #7: Multiplicity

This was 110% my favorite project  so far. I had no idea doing something like this would be so easy to do, especially on Photoshop (aka my worst enemy). It was fun and easy to shoot, fun and easy to edit, and it was definitely my favorite assignment visually.

Assignment #6: Restoration

When I first began this project, I thought I was way in over my head. I barely understood the works of Photoshop, and yet, here I was, choosing one of the most difficult photos to restore. But, it's done, I did it, and it was certainly a satisfying completion. I'm so pleased with how it turned out and really enjoyed this entire project.

Assignment #5: Propaganda

Controversy is held within opinion. I have my specific morals and opinions I've held for a long time, and I always love and encourage others to do the same, even if they don't agree with mine. Just have an opinion with facts and solid evidence to back it up, and I'll listen to your side if you'll listen to mine.
With that said, for my propaganda poster, I came up with this visual. Allow me to explain: Police batons, the Black Lives Matter symbolic fist, Trump's slogan and the American flag; the common factor? Police brutality in America being continued under the Trump administration. It's been an issue for a long time, and not much has been done to stop it. Instead, more has been done to combat the idea of it even being a thing, despite video evidence of police excessively abusing or being aggressive toward minorities, in this case, African Americans. Theres's been countless murders of innocent black men, women, and kids, most whose names never even made headlines or court cases; this should not be happening in 21st century America. These names shouldn't be forgotten or repressed, they should be shouted at officials who are doing nothing until action is taken and history is done repeating itself.
In Trump's own words, "When you guys put somebody in the car and you're protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over? Like, don't hit their head, and they just killed somebody-don't hit their head, I said, you can take the hand away, okay?
What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?I made this poster with one message: Make America Safe...for everyone, under this administration and the rest of them to come.I really enjoyed this project and the discussion and ideas it sparked. Even if opinions didn't match mine, I loved seeing my classmates holding their own views and morals; its more important to have and hold nowadays than ever before.

Assignment #4: Logos

This project was definitely a challenge; I'll be the first one to say I'm not the most adobe-art-software friendly. I prefer to draw things on actual paper than on a digital one, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Even though in the critique, some said the bakery logo should've been closer together, but I really love it as it is. I came into this project with a negative attitude, and though I faced my fair share of frustrations during the process, I'm posting this with confidence in both logos, Wacom tablets, and the pen tool, definitely the pen tool.

Assignment #3: Calligram

For our second assignment, the calligram, I really enjoyed it. My sister, a graphic designer, completed the same project years ago in her digital media class, so to be able to create another cool image that my parent can put up on the fridge next to hers was a good feeling.

I loved how much freedom we had to create whatever we really wanted. The only thing I would've changed about this whole project was I wish we'd have more time to complete it. It was difficult learning all the processes, given hurricane Irma's inconsiderate drop-i., But, having said that, I am really proud of my calligram and love the concept I came up with. People often push others away when they need them the most, and that's what this captures; the mixed signals that come with pain.

Assignment #2: HTML

For our second assignment, the HTML Illustrator project, we were faced with the task of creating an image with a list of required shapes and nothing to work with besides a series of code. I found the project itself extremely interesting because I've always wanted to learn how to code something. However, the assignment was definitely a challenge that forced me to come face to face with some serious frustrations. Still a cool project, still a cool thing to learn to do, but not something I'd prefer to do in a few day-span time crunch.

Introductions

I made it to college and I (somehow) managed to make it to the Cass building. Being a film major with a hopeful minor in writing, I’ll be spending a lot of time in there; it’s unique and somewhat isolated building is definitely going to become a haven and an occasional menace to me, but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless.

My name is Olivia Miranda, and I am a student at the University of Tampa. I’m originally from New York, but I’ve lived here in Tampa for the last 16 years (though I still will never call myself a Floridian). Ever since I can remember, I’ve been artistic; painting, drawing, ceramics- I’ve taken my shot at as many mediums as I can, though I prefer photography and videography. I’m extremely passionate about both, so my deciding factor for choosing my major was simple: people. I like to work with people, and the more the merrier.

As for Art 210, I walked into the class still unsure of what I was getting myself into, but I left excitedly terrified for what was to come in the semester. I’m not Photoshop’s biggest fan, but I’ve always wanted to conquer it and I look forward to doing just that in this class. I hope to further understand more softwares and connect what I can do within them to what I can do on the big screen. Visuals inspire me; they drive me to create and to create in my own way. So I guess what I truly hope to get from this class is inspiration, and I believe that between what I’ll do and the classmates I’ll get to do it with, I’ll be able to find it quite easily.
